Philanthropy at Work: Leslie's Story
When I was a kid, my sister and I were nearly inseparable. Not only did we do everything together, like dress up as doctors and nurses on Halloween, we were doubles partners on our high school tennis team. Unfortunately, during my freshman year, my appendix ruptured and I was rushed to NCH. At first, I was scared because of the uncertainty of not knowing what was wrong. However, my doctors made me feel comfortable, explained the situation so I would understand, and guided me through diagnosis and treatment with compassion.
Because of my experience, I learned first-hand the difference competent, compassionate healthcare professionals can make. That “scary” hospital visit all those years ago, inspired me to help those in need and pursue a career in healthcare.
I still remember the incredible feeling I had when I accepted an offer to join the second NCH Internal Medicine Residency class—a teaching program developed in partnership with our affiliate, Mayo Clinic. After so many years of hard work, my dream was becoming a reality. This opportunity has once again allowed me to partner with my sister, an NCH cardiac nurse, and together, we are improving the health of the people we serve. Not only have I been embraced by the NCH community, I take tremendous pride in kick-starting my career in the hospital where I was born and in the city where I was raised.
Private funding from individuals like you enables me to practice medicine, change the lives of the people of Southwest Florida and continue making Collier County the healthiest community in America. Investing in NCH helps medical professionals like me pursue their dreams and make a difference in our community.
