Patient Preparation
From your first encounter with our team, you will understand the value we place on patient care. Our goal is to make patients and their loved ones feel at ease before, during and after their procedure. Every surgery or procedure is unique and you should always consult your physician with specific questions about your care. You will find general information here to give you a better understanding of what to expect.
Preparing for Your Surgery
- Prior to your surgery, you will be contacted by text or email to complete an online pre-registration questionnaire. If you do not have access to an internet provider, a nurse will contact you via your provided phone number. Your physician or a facility nurse will tell you what time you are to stop eating and drinking prior to your surgery. A facility nurse will contact you the day before your surgery to give you your arrival time to the surgery center.
- If you take medications or herbal remedies for any conditions, ask your physician or a facility nurse when to stop taking them.
- Notify your physician if there is any change in your health such as a cold, fever, sore throat, or skin rash the week before your surgery.
- For women, if there is any possibility you are pregnant, please notify your physician or a facility nurse.
- If special financial arrangements are necessary, please call our business office at 239-382-5001 prior to your surgery date.
Day of Your Surgery
- Avoid styling products, makeup, perfume and nail polish.
- You will be asked to remove contact lenses, piercings, dentures and any prosthesis. You may bring your glasses to use before your surgery.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing; upon arrival you will change into a gown and socks provided by the facility.
- Leave all valuables at home including watches, rings, jewelry and cash.

Resources
- Arrive promptly at the scheduled time to allow adequate time for admission procedures.
- Bring your picture ID, insurance cards, any paperwork from your physician (such as cardiology reports), a list of your medications and a form of payment if your insurance company requires a co-payment.
- Arrange for an adult to drive you home after surgery; you will not be allowed to drive yourself. We will ask for the name and contact number of your designated driver when you arrive at the surgery center.
NPO Guideline Instructions
- Infants and children up to 12 months old:
- NPO for 6 hours prior to procedure for milk (formula or animal milk), solid food and meals
- MAY have mother’s breast milk until four (4) hours before surgery
- MAY have clear liquids (water or apple juice) until two (2) hours before surgery
- Children from 13 months to eight (8) years of age:
- NPO after midnight or eight (8) hours prior to procedure
- MAY have light snack six (6) hours prior to procedure (dry toast, crackers, rice cakes)
- MAY have clear liquids (water or apple juice) until two (2) hours before surgery
- Adults and children nine (9) years of age and older:
- NPO after midnight or eight (8) hours prior to procedure (patients on immunonutrition type supplements, including arginine supplements must stop these drinks eight (8) hours prior to surgery)
- MAY have light snack six (6) hours prior to procedure (dry toast, crackers, rice cakes)
- MAY have clear liquids (water or apple juice or clear carb drinks like Gatorade) until two (2) hours before surgery
Recovery Area
- After surgery you will be moved to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home.
- When you are ready for discharge, your family will be notified and given your discharge instructions. Although times may vary, most patients are discharged one hour after surgery. Due to limited space and patient privacy, we ask that family members stay in the waiting area unless otherwise noted. Exceptions to this guideline will be made for young children and at the discretion of the facility.
- It is normal to feel discomfort in the area of your surgical site. Depending on the type of anesthesia you receive during surgery, you may experience drowsiness, dizziness or nausea.
At Home After Your Surgery
- We care about your recovery after surgery. A nurse will call you to check on your progress the following business day.
- Your physician will provide specific instructions for care while recovering at home; in the event of any difficulty, please contact your physician.
- For the first 24 hours following surgery, do not engage in strenuous activities, drink any alcoholic beverages, drive or make any critical decisions.
- In the event of medical need, a patient may require transfer and/or admission to a hospital.
